Nantucket, Massachusetts -- Nantucket is one of the most dog friendly vacation spots in the United States. Dogs are welcomed everywhere, including in restaurants with outside tables, the beach, and all of the parks on island. Dogs always travel for free both on the ferries to the island, and on commuter airplanes from Hyannis.
When our dog, Buck, was still alive, we really enjoyed his company on the flight from Hyannis to Nantucket. He will sit in the back and put his nose to the window and enjoy the ride. It was truly wonderful to know that he was always welcomed. He always travel for free, and fellow travelers welcomed his company....
Pet Friendly Rentals Tips
Pet Friendly vacation homes usually are plentiful in Nantucket, but without doubt, they are available under certain financial arrangements. It is not unusual that the owner of a "Pet Friendly House", will require not only an extra security deposit but also a non-refundable "Pet Fee". The "Pet Fee" is usually between $300 - $350 per dog, and the security deposit if often set at 20% of your rental amount. Therefore, if you are renting a $10,000 a week home, the security deposit will be $2,000.
Occasionally, the owner of a Pet Friendly Rental will demand a much higher deposit, such as $5,000.
Pet Friendly Rentals Tips
Owners of properties that allow pets often have some special requirements for your stay. These include, but are not restricted to:
(a) Pets must be crated at all times that the owners are not in the property. Usually the owner will provide a crate per dog at a $75.00 per crate per week rate. If the owner does not provide a crate, you can always rent one from Geronimos next to the Stop & Shop, Sparks Avenue, see their rental rates here;
(b) If the pet goes to the beach, then, pet must be washed and dried in the outside shower before the pet is allowed back into the house;
(c) Pets are never allowed in the furniture, including all beds; and
(d) Often, the owner will require that the property is professionally de-flea at the sole cost to the renter. Typically this runs between $250 and $350 depending on the size of the property.

# 3: Restaurant Access - Dogs are unequivacally allowed. Further, they are welcome everywhere on the island including beaches, and restaurants with outside sitting. Please make sure that you call the specific restaurant before bringing your pet;

Pets travel for free on all modes of transportation to and from the island. However, we encourage the traveler to call ahead of time if traveling by air. Space for dogs and pets in the main cabin is usually limited to one pet per flight; and their is stiff competion for this special seat.

Your summer vacation is over, catching the ferry or airplane for your return home is taxing.
